Major cycling routes in the Manche region

La Manche is a dream destination for cycling enthusiasts. Between the Norman bocage countryside, greenways, spectacular coastline, and exceptional heritage sites, the major cycling routes offer a variety of experiences, accessible to all levels. A common thread among many routes is the unique thrill of admiring Mont-Saint-Michel, a jewel listed as a World Heritage Site.

Good to know: our 3-star hotel-restaurant, Les Treize Assiettes, located in the heart of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, is certified as a "Accueil Vélo" (Cyclist Welcome).

The Véloscénie: the spectacular route

Among the iconic routes, the Véloscénie connects Paris to Mont-Saint-Michel over nearly 450 km.

In La Manche, it unfolds in five gentle and verdant stages, ideal for savoring the scenery:
  • Domfront → Barenton (16.93 km): a sporty entry into the medieval town, followed by a greenway offering superb views of the Normandy countryside.
  • Barenton → Mortain (10.47 km): Typical bocage landscapes, between forests, rocks, and verdant valleys.
  • Mortain → Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët (10.97 km): A bucolic stage punctuated by old train stations and the natural site of the Cance waterfall.
  • Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët → Ducey (18.91 km): A peaceful transition between Norman history and former river ports.
  • Ducey → Mont-Saint-Michel (22.47 km): The final, magical stage follows the mouth of the Sélune River before heading into the heart of the bay, between salt marshes and unforgettable panoramas.

The Vélomaritime: Cycling along the English Channel

Another major, unmissable route, the Vélomaritime crosses the English Channel for over 350 km. Between land and sea, it reveals cliffs, harbors, beaches, and coastal villages.

This route appeals to cyclists seeking wide-open spaces as well as those who wish to discover the diverse landscapes of the Manche region at their own pace.

Other cycling routes in the Manche

The Manche region is also crossed by routes such as La Régalante, ideal for connecting Normandy to Brittany, or the D-Day Landing Beaches Cycle Route, steeped in history.

For the more athletic, La Normand’Epik VTT promises more technical routes, with elevation changes and challenging trails, in the heart of wild landscapes.
